Tips on Improving the Experience of Participants in Online Training Programs
Presentation basics include preparing thoroughly, providing accurate information, make certain the information you use is timely, be certain your presentation is relevant to your audience, and avoid presenting any unnecessary or extraneous information.
- Recognize that in today’s business environment, companies offering online training to employees is becoming more common and is likely to continue to increase in popularity as (a) the types of online programs increase and (b) the skills of online content presenters improves and (c) more companies come to appreciate the time and cost savings as well as the convenience to the employer and the employee of targeted, online training programs whether those programs are developed in-house or offered by third parties such as a local NACM affiliate Credit Association.
- There are enough third party online training programs that credit professionals should be able to find training programs that tie directly back to the skills that the credit team needs to learn or master.
- Several NACM affiliate Credit Associations offer deep discounts to their frequent flyer attendees that purchase in advance a specific number of web based training programs.
- To lower the cost per trainee, make certain that everyone that should attend online programs offered by third parties are invited, including those who would directly and immediately benefit as well as individuals who aspire to being promoted into a position in which the content of the third party web based training would be useful.
- From the presenter’s perspective, online content should be more visually appealing and less wordy. An often heard complaint about many online programs is that the presenter did little more than read the PowerPoint slides.
- From the presenter’s perspective, it is important to keep the program moving. With this in mind, it may be a good idea to have bullet points fade into the PowerPoint presentation as needed. Another option is to create multiple slides rather than to create a single slide with multiple ideas presented in it.
- Online training programs rarely take advantage of the many options that can enhance the learning experience students. One idea is to invite a subject matter expert to present a portion of the program to attendees. Doing so makes the training more sophisticated as well as more effective.
- Presenters and their sponsors should always conduct satisfaction surveys following the presentation. Both good and bad comments need to be shared with the presenter. These surveys are an opportunity to refine and improve the content of the online training program.
- Feedback also enables to Association and its instructor to create new programs, or to offer customized training online to the participant(s) who complain that the program they attended did not meet their expectations.
