Selecting a Third Party Collection Agency
It is probably best to use at least two third-party commercial debt collection agencies. This will allow you to compare fees and services. Ideally, the two agencies will compete for your business and each will demonstrate their interest in winning your business by trying to deliver superior service at the most competitive price. Remember that pricing in the collection field is unregulated, meaning you might pay 10 percent or as much as 50 percent of what the agency is able to recover. The contingent collection rate is negotiable within limits meaning the agency must make a profit.
If you are not getting the service you need, not recovering the amount you expected, or paying more than you expect to pay for third party collections, it is time to start looking for a new agency. Fortunately, there are many competent and professional commercial collection agencies to choose from, and this is a buyer's market for credit professionals
