Judicial Liens

A Judicial Lien is a lien obtained in court by judgment or other judicial process against a debtor.  It may be granted if a court finds that a judgment remains unsatisfied.  The judgment creditor can ask the court to impose a lien on assets owned and possessed by the debtor.

Once a Judicial Lien has been granted, the judgment creditor can ask the court for a writ directing the local marshall or sheriff to seize the debtor's assets, sell them, and turn over the proceeds to the creditor minus the administative costs of seizing and selling the assets.
