Freight Forwarder

The term freight forwarder refers to an organization that arranges shipments for its clients.  Freight forwarders are often used to arrange for shipment of goods to a foreign destination.  A freight forwarder may also act as a common carrier.  A common carrier is a company that transports goods and offers its services to the general public.  

The most frequently used carriers used to transport customers' products by freight forwarders are ships, barges, trucks, trains and aircraft.  A freight forwarder will have the experience and the expertise to prepare and process the documentation and perform necessary activities needed to ensure that international shipments arrive at their destination.  relating to executing international shipments.

A freight forwarder often assists the seller/shipper in preparing shipping documents for presentation either under a letter of credit or collection basis. Some freight forwarder organizations primarily use ocean freight.  Some specialize in the use of air freight. A full service freight forwarder will offer customers options including but not limited to air freight and ocean freight.  Freight forwarders often help clear imports through customs at the foreign country listed as the final destination.
