Country of Destination Import Requirements
- There are two types of entries, formal and informal. Formal entry is made when the value of goods is equal to or above US $1,250. However, U.S. Customs sometimes require formal entry for items valued at less then US $1,250.
- A bond must be filed with customs for all shipments. For regular imports, you can get a continuous bond for a minimum of US $450. Otherwise you can have a single entry bond for US $4.00 per US $1,000.00 of the FOB value, minimum US $40.00 per entry. However, for textiles and FDA regulated goods the bond is based on three (3) times the FOB value of the merchandise.
- For all imports a an MPF (merchandise processing fee) of 0.21% on the FOB Value of goods will be charged and paid to the U.S. Customs.
- For ocean import only, an HMF (harbor maintenance fee) of 0.125% on the FOB value is charged and paid to port authorities.
- There is a customs brokers clearing fee for services rendered. The fee is based on commodity, number of items per invoice and generally on the extent of service provided.· Cargo insurance may be required. The rate is based on commodity, country of import, mode of shipment and insured amount.
- All other charges are at cost such as duty, freight charges payable to carrier and trucking cost to deliver goods in the U.S.
- All invoices must be paid in full upon receipt within seven days without any exception, otherwise an interest fee of 2% per month on balance amount due will be charged. When credit is approved, invoices must be paid within 15 days without any exception, otherwise an interest fee of 1.5% per month will be added to the balance amount.
- To begin the process, the importer must provide the original copy of power of attorney and a duly completed credit application.
- The importer must provide original bills of lading, a commercial invoice, and a packing list. For garments, a visa and a quota certificate. For air shipments, an air waybill Non-negotiable bill of lading that applies to air cargo. copy or number.
